I have been laughing ( with you ) at your Gambian / Sénégalese learning experiences . . congratulations on surviving and still loving the region, something I have been doing for over 20 years.
I shall be in Kaolack with my Sénégalese ( Kaolack born ) wife in February .. send me an e-mail if you are going to be there and we could meet up for a chat, safe in the knowledge that there will be no mariage proposals !! :-))
